(from the Godalming & Farncombe pubs and breweries)
During the late 1920's and early 1930's extensive housing estates were developed at Farncombe. The brewers, Hodgson of Kingston, owners of the White Hart in Godalming High Street, built a new public house in Farncombe in a suburban-style typical of the period to cater for the thirst of the new residents.
In order to obtain a licence for this new venture the brewers agreed with the Licensing Authority that an existing licence should be transferred to the new public house. Consequently, at the annual Licensing Sessions in February 1934 the license of the old White Hart in Godalming High Street was transferred to the new White Hart.
Hodgsons were acquired by Courages in 1943 and more recently this pub has become a freehouse. However, the stained glass windows at the front of the premises still show the Kingston Brewery's coat of arms, consisting of three fish, thus emphasizing the origins of the White Hart.
